So does Runblad look like he might live up to that potential. I obviously don't keep up with CHI training/preseason, I was curious. I've always liked him and wanted him to be a good player.

>Hawks always seem to have a "language caddy" for key players: Kopy and now Rozy for Hossa (you could also say Oduya became one for the Hammer)
>TT's language caddy is Pokka
>Think the Hawks always try to find a player that works on the roster first, but are more conscious than most teams about understanding that a player wants to speak his native tongue once and awhile

John Jaeckel: More on Leddy, Carcillo
- John Jaeckel

"My only huge beef with Carcillo is his propensity for taking the odd, incredibly dumb penalty at a bad time."

"Anyone saying “how about he’s a horrible hockey player,” needs to stop pining for a roster full of 168 pound, would-be top six players."

Yes and Yes, 100% spot on JJ. This team can't afford to get any smaller or less physical...we already got that covered in spades.

I thought he looked really solid in the last preseason game. It's impossible to draw any conclusions on him yet - he's been around for awhile and with multiple organizations, but he has never had the opportunity to play for a long stretch of games in a row. It's going to be tough for him to crack the lineup, though - Cumiskey and TVR seem to pretty clearly be Q favorites, and I don't get the sense that the same holds true for Rundblad.

Not to mention JJ - Carcillo stated in an interview the other day that he's "down 15-20 lbs".

While that may hurt him in the finishing checks category, it will help him in all other areas and keep his spark going all the way to the playoffs.

If I'm not mistaken, we signed carbomb to less than what monster-mash would make if we kept him up. I can understand that. same as with Regin.

Regin > Carcillo. that's the only part I can't get my head around, to not reward Regin for trying 110% every time he's on the ice.

Cap space is cap space, though, and even $200k or so helps when you're this strapped.

Carcillo for league min is a good signing, regardless.

Wait, how can the league have lots of trade talk now, after all the rosters are set and decisions made? I read from many posters on the last blog that this is not at all a good time to try to make trades..... Actually, this is a good time for trades to fill holes that have become apparent during camp and pre-season.

As a fan trades are always exciting, that is until after they are done and buyers remorse sets in. Only time will tell with our new prospects

JJ, any specific news on which 'Hawks players Stan might still be looking to move? And what type of players or return is looking to acquire?

There are still 6 teams above the cap according to capgeek, but I'm not sure if that's because they're still carrying extra players who will be sent down to the AHL.

"and I would not rule out Mashinter going to the Rock or some other unforeseen move."

With Carbomb on the team why isn't this a foregone conclusion?

JJ I remember from his previous stint you were probably a bigger fan of Carbomb than most people... Personally... IMO if he ever takes a top-6 shift on the team, Bickell, Morin and TT better all have broken legs.

Not to speak for JJ. It comes down to league minimum wages and Stanley Cup experience.
Top six Towes passes to Kane, Shooooting, tipped, they score! Carcillo!
Sounds ok to me even if it happens only once.

5 of the 6 teams over the cap include rosters of 24 or 25 guys. Once they get down to 22 or 23 guys they'll be cap compliant. The Bruins are the 6th team and Savard will come off the books once he goes on LTIR so they're ok too.

With 23 players, including 8 defensemen, we are over the cap by about $47,000. That assumes Rundblad, Cumiskey and TVR are all on the team. Nobody on the roster except Raanta and TVR can be sent to Rockford without going through waivers.

Could lose Cumisky and bring up Klas. Then they can use the Rockford Express to massage the number, with either TVR or Klas being "sent down" when not playing or on off days.

Not being a Richard at all, but do you realize if in fact, he could easilty be an everyday guy here, but can not find a job anywhere else in the NHL, that there is any irony in that?

Probably 10 or 12 of his games were playing right wing. But yes, had no trouble with him being a spot guy. Huge difference than counting on a guy for 80 games.

- TrueGrit

It's ok. I just think he could be everyday 6D with great team and steady partner in Leddy last year. He was not bad at all last season.

What I find interesting is on capgeek depth chart TT is listed as a LW behind Carcillo. He did have a sick goal in the shootout

That would put us over the cap even more, Cumiskey has a cap hit of $600,000 and Klas is $613,333.

Same difference. Over is over. To have eight defensemen at the start, either Rundblad or TVR can't be there (unless Rozy is on LTIR). But TVR and Klas can go up and down to massage the cap number.

Trading Leddy = Mistake ..... Signing Carbomb = Mistake ....Carbomb takes stupid penalties and then injures himself for long periods of time ... I don't know what stans been smoking but our 5/6 defense is weak as it was and now its worse still .
We have plenty of offense in all honesty and could of afford to get rid of Patrick Sharp and save us from this mess . I like Sharp but but he makes to much to be on this team and I am sick of his weak shot selection ( right in the goalies chest)
Yep ... they should of marketed him much earlier in the year instead of waiting for the last minute ....

Has he been hanging around Jared Allen these last few weeks?
